Driveway Repairs in Farnham

Most failing driveways are not worn out — they are under-built or badly drained. We diagnose the cause first, then repair the cause rather than the symptom.

We are called out to sunken paving, spreading edges, potholes and standing water across Farnham and the surrounding villages regularly. Some of it is a half-day repair. Some of it is a base that was never built properly and will keep failing until it is rebuilt. We will tell you which one you have before you spend anything.

What we repair

We repair the surfaces we install, which means we know how they were built and what has gone wrong beneath them.

  • Sunken and dished areas of block paving, usually over backfilled trenches or soft spots
  • Loose, rocking or missing blocks and lost joint sand
  • Damaged, spreading or missing edge restraints and kerbs
  • Potholes, cracking and ravelled edges in tarmac
  • Failed, cracked or stained sections of resin bound surfacing
  • Standing water, blocked or missing channel drains and soakaway problems
  • Rutted, thinning and migrating gravel driveways
  • Localised resurfacing and replacement of failed sections

Why driveways fail

Nearly every failure we see comes back to one of four things: an insufficient or uncompacted sub-base, a missing edge restraint, water with nowhere to go, or a service trench that was backfilled loose and has consolidated over a few winters.

That matters because it decides the repair. Relaying sunken blocks on the same failed base buys you two years. Digging out the soft material, recompacting a proper base and relaying the original blocks fixes it for good — and often costs less than doing it twice.

Repair or replace?

If the surface is generally sound and the problem is localised, repair is nearly always the right call. Block paving in particular is designed to be lifted and relaid, so a well-executed repair should be invisible.

Replacement makes more sense when the base has failed across the whole area, when a tarmac drive is cracked throughout rather than in patches, or when the drive was never deep enough for the vehicles now using it. We come out, look, and give you both options with prices rather than pushing the bigger job.

Drainage repairs

Standing water is a symptom, not the fault. We check falls, look for the point where the water is meant to leave, and establish whether a channel drain is blocked, undersized, discharging nowhere, or was never fitted.

Typical remedies include installing or replacing a linear channel drain across a threshold, re-setting falls in a section of paving, cutting in a new gully, or building a correctly sized soakaway. On the clay ground common around Farnham, soakaway sizing and depth make the difference between a fix and a repeat visit.

How a repair visit works

We visit, inspect and where necessary lift a small area to look at the base — you cannot diagnose a driveway from the surface alone. You then get a written quote that names the cause, the repair method and the price.

Most localised repairs are completed in one to three days. We match existing blocks and materials wherever they are still available, and where a colour match is impossible on a weathered surface we will say so up front rather than surprise you afterwards.
